Mesa, Arizona — Two new airlines and additional nonstop destinations helped Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (Gateway Airport, Airport) mark its fourteenth consecutive month of passenger growth and its seventh consecutive month of record-setting
activity. Swoop, an ultra-low cost Canadian airline, started service to Edmonton, Canada and California Pacific Airlines began flying between Gateway Airport and Carlsbad/San Diego Area. In addition, Allegiant Air added their 44th destination with nonstop
service to St. George, UT. A record 133,894 passengers traveled through Gateway Airport in November, a 16 percent increase over the same month last year. This recent surge in passenger activity also makes 2018 the busiest year in the Airport’s history; with
the December holiday travel period still left to be counted.
“We are thrilled with the record-setting passenger numbers we are seeing at Gateway Airport,” said Apache Junction Mayor Jeff Serdy, Chair of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA). “These additional airlines and destinations will allow more
and more Phoenix area air travelers to use the convenience of Gateway Airport when traveling to visit family and friends.”
Additionally, Flair Airlines began nonstop service in mid-December to Edmonton and Winnipeg, Canada. Passengers can now travel on five airlines at Gateway Airport to forty-eight cities across the United States and Canada.
J. Brian O’Neill A.A.E., PMGAA Executive Director added, “Record passenger growth, new airlines, and additional destinations are all testaments to the increasing strength of our dynamic market. A record number of people are relocating to the Greater Phoenix
area and Gateway Airport is working to improve air service to meet the growing regional demand.”
