Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Posts Record Summer Passenger Growth

Mesa, Arizona — Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (Gateway Airport) continued its streak of consecutive passenger growth after reporting its busiest September in airport history. Gateway Airport has seen double digit growth in passenger numbers over the past year and September marks the fifth consecutive month of record passenger traffic. This winter, passengers will have five airlines to choose from when Swoop, California Pacific, and Flair Air join WestJet and Allegiant Air at the airport. Travelers can fly nonstop from the Greater Phoenix area to 47 destinations.

“This year is shaping up to be the busiest year that Gateway Airport has ever had,” said Apache Junction Mayor and Chair of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) Jeff Serdy. “We are excited that Allegiant has added additional destinations and that we are welcoming three brand new airlines in time for the winter travel season.”

September also marks the twelfth consecutive month of year over year growth. Anticipating a record holiday travel season, Gateway Airport this week will complete a redesign of the hourly parking lot and passenger pick up and drop off areas. This project will provide an additional lane of traffic for customers visiting the airport, along with a more convenient way to access the airport’s hourly parking lot.
