MESA, Ariz. — Passenger traffic numbers are increasing at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport with the highest monthly total in 24 months. March numbers were 2,139 passengers greater than March 2014.

“All of Arizona benefits from an increase in passenger traffic,” said Queen Creek Mayor and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority Board Chairman Gail Barney. “This is great news for our local businesses and our residents who enjoy the convenience of flying out of Gateway.”

March 2015 was the busiest month since 2013 due to Allegiant increasing their frequency of flights, adding destinations, and selling more seats.

“Thanks to the success of ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant Air, Gateway is not only growing but is also the lowest cost airport in the country,” said Airport Executive Director Jane Morris. “Travelers interested in good deals are flying nonstop on Allegiant to all 35 of their Gateway destinations.”

U.S. Department of Transportation’s most recent survey lists Gateway Airport as hosting the lowest air fares based on domestic itinerary fares, which includes any additional taxes and fees levied by an outside entity at the time of purchase. The average one-way fare at Gateway was $99.69 with a U.S. average fare of $396.37.
